In Tennessee, there are an estimated 20,000 abused and neglected children in need of a loving and permanent home. As they work through the system, these abused and neglected children do not have a voice, which is where the Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) steps in to be for the child.
In spring 2017, there were 1,444 CASA volunteers across the state serving about 5,200 children, leaving nearly 15,000 children still in need of an advocate on their behalf. Hall Strategies was brought on to the team to identify a way to close the gap with a volunteer recruitment campaign.
We began interviewing CASA Volunteers from across the state for background and immediately realized these stories had the potential to inspire others to become CASAs– with that, we put together a statewide volunteer recruitment campaign that called for people to “Be For The Child”. It involved media relations, internal communications, content creation and website development.
In just one year, CASA has seen nearly a 17 percent increase with 1,700 CASA volunteers across the state. The campaign had such success that the Kentucky CASA Network hired Hall Strategies to implement a modified but similar “Be For The Child” statewide volunteer recruitment campaign in Kentucky.
